Today we played Carcassonne with the two expansions and Amun-Re.

We started with Carcassonne and we had a chance to try out both expansions. We liked Carcassonne with the expansions. It made for a most interesting game. The start of the game saw me jumping ahead to 12 points ahead of the other players but that was not meant to be.

This is the early stages of Carcassonne. The focus was to build and complete cities, as they gave out goods.

Slowly every other player got ahead of me, and my play got more and more abysmal. I went for the goods while Rui went for getting lots of points from completed cities. He even managed to put a cathedral in one of the cities and get lots and lots of points out of that city.

Here we are, trying to figure out what the best play would be.
The landscape of Carcassonne gets bigger.

As the play progressed, I got left so far behind Rui and Artur actually overlaped me in the scoring track. What a shame! I suck at playing Carcassonne, I always end up last.

Rui got himself a safe distance from the second place player and he went ahead to win the game.

It would still get bigger, the landscape. This is Carcassonne at the middle of play.

The scoring were:

Rui - 186
Artur - 138
Nelson - 110
Marum - 95

After this we went and played Amun-Re. This is a nice boardgame by Reiner Knizia and it was the second time we played it. We all started nicely without any serious bidding war for a province. We all built at least one pyramid in each of our provinces, which assured us a complete set of pyramids. I wasnīt getting power cards, but Artur was pursuing the strategy of getting lots of power cards.

Here is Amun-re at its beggining. Some pyramids have already been built.

Everyone was also getting farmers, but the sacrifices for Amun-Re were low, and were made worst because Artur kept giving the damned -3 card. The farmers never had an income greater than 2 per farmer, much to the dismay of Nelson. At the end of the old kingdom, I was leading but not by a wide margin.

So the new kingdom begun, all farmers were removed and all property markers were removed as well. There were some bidding wars this time, and lots of bidding blockades power cards played. The farmers were hard to get this time and some provinces were left without the complete set of farmers in them. Still, even though the farmers were still giving a 2 income thanks to Artur who kept playing the damned -3 card, money wasnīt a problem. Still, I decided to save the money in order to get the full 6 points from the scoring phase. There werenīt that many pyramids built this time, although Artur got the province with most pyramids, 4 to be exact.

Here is Amun-Re at its end. the board isnīt as crowded as the last time we played but there was at least one pyramid per province this time.

Here are the results:

Nelson - 42
Artur - 35
Marum - 33
Rui - 26
